I was first diagnosed with MS 7 years ago. At the time I remember feeling very overwhelmed and frightened - having no idea what the future might hold for me and my health.
About 5 years ago I walked in my first MS walk and I made a commitment that as long as I was able I would walk each year.
When I go to the walk and see people with varying levels of movement impairment in helps reinforce my attitude that I need to be grateful for my relative good health. No point feeling sorry for myself about the fact that I have been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease. Instead, I need to focus on being grateful for every day that I am able to function with only minimal intrusions.
Fatigue is my biggest problem and sometimes it is a struggle to push through and do everything I need to do. However, when I do get it done it does create a great feeling of empowerment.
The 2013 MS Walk will be held in Bowie, April 13, 2013. The route is 3.5 miles long but with good company it goes very quickly. My good friend Briget McGee (AKA Mortgage Mama) has joined me and we had a great time.
I'm hoping some of my AR friends will support me as I walk in the 2013 walk.
Consider joining me on the walk - great way to get some exercise while supporting a great cause - Bowie Walk MS team Road Warriors.
If you aren't local or able to join me I hope some will consider making a small donation to my team.
