Pictures from our cell phones may be a stalker's dream

Most of us don't check in on Foursquare or facebook from our homes because we don't want everyone to know our home address.

How many of us realize that the pictures that we upload to the internet may be giving away that very information?

Pictures taken with our cell phones are equipped with something called geotagging.  This means that when we upload it to the web someone can use certain programs to pinpoint the exact location where the photo was taken.

This is actually useful technology for when we are taking pictures at a listing or for certain localism type posts but not when we are sharing personal information.

If I take a picture of my kids at my home and post it on facebook someone can use geotagging to pinpoint my exact home address - I find this frightening!

This is a stalker's dream.  If someone uploads picture instantly from their telephone then someone could locate you in a matter of seconds.

It is possible to turn off this feature on your phone.

For I-phones - go to settings, then general, then location.  You can then turn off location services for the camera.

www.icanstalku.com will give information about how to turn off this feature for other types of phones.
